Professional background

I earned an MBA at INSEAD Fontainebleau, France, and graduated from the University of Vienna, Austria, with a doctorate in business administration. After a distinguished career in insurance (the last 10 years on the Management Board or "Vorstand" of Kölnische Rückversicherungsgruppe, then acquired by Berkshire Hathaway and now known as Gen Re, in 2000 I established my own private equity company with a focus on investments and M&A activities in the financial services industry, which I still manage as Chairman & CEO. We work through a worldwide network of partners and are active in Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. I sit on the Advisory or Supervisory Board of numerous companies, the largest one of which is Partner Re (http://www.partnerre.com/). Additionally I am an active Business Angel.
